The Hero

One morning recently I woke up with the song, “I Need a Hero,” on my mind. Do you remember it? I can almost hear Bonnie Tyler’s awesome husky voice belting it out, bringing me back to my days at the roller rink…

Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?

Where’s the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?

Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need…

I need a hero!

Then, the Lord started showing me that this is the cry of the world. They are looking for a hero. With all of the chaos and upheaval going on in our nation today, it’s no wonder people feel unsettled and anxious. They are looking for someone – or something – to come in and save the day. The problem is, they refuse to recognize that He already came. The Hero they’re dreaming of has already given them the victory.

There is still the need for good men to rise up and stand fast in the face of the rising tide of evil spilling out around us…ambassadors on behalf of our King. It’s our job to stem the tide by sending out our message of hope, healing, victory, and promise that comes directly from our faith in Christ. We know how this all will end. We know the solution to the problem…His name is Jesus.

It’s time for the song makers of this age to begin to send out the siren songs of hope, the call to arms for the Body of Christ, to encourage the downtrodden, and to boldly proclaim the truth with their gifts. We can reveal the Hero to those who have not realized His coming. We can introduce them to the solution. It began with Him and it’s now our job to reveal the Kingdom to those lost in the darkness.
